This is supposed to be an innovative social business right?

I think so, and asking a set price for a workshop hasn’t set right with me since I launched it. So we’re going to try something different… We will “suggest” a price and you can contribute in whatever way works best for you. Cash is critical to the success of our project, but so are skills, items, and participation. So contribute in any way you can! The website is getting updated as we speak and this new contribution model will be reflected soon.

Cash is king… or so I’ve heard. In our situation it is definitely true as the next big hurdle is a financial one. Even though we have the materials, time, and skills to build everything for the hostel, we are hindered by some astronomical permit fees. Basically the only thing holding us back from building the coolest hostel ever is a fat wad of cash.
So any money that comes our way is crucial to the success of The Ederbickems Experiment and will be highly appreciated. Only when the hostel is built and operating will all of our follow on programs really develop and foster. Help us feed the skinny pig so we can buy those permits and build the hostel!
Tools and other random items are important to the success of Ederbickems and we would much rather reuse and repurpose existing items than purchase new ones. We will keep a list of needed items on the website. Basically you can check the list and maybe you have something in your closet or tool shed that will help out as opposed to reaching into your pocketbook. You can always hit up a neighbor or yard sale which are great ways to interact with your local community…. Don’t forget to spread the word about Ederbickems while you’re out and about gathering items.
Most all of us have a random skill or service we can provide, and even better most of us actually enjoy performing the skills that we are good at. We will randomly need specialized assistance as we build, grow, and evolve our project. Contributing your knowledge in exchange for some natural building instruction sounds like a good deal to me. Any engineers out there??? We have a looming ~$15k hit to our wallet associated with the engineering approval required for our building plans. As I envision my hero, I see a person standing there, with this glow around them of course, and this big gold pen that they use to approve our plans! Not really kidding there either, ha!
But I digress… in exchange for assistance at that level, we could offer listing as a sponsor on our website and a promise to send all the business we can your way.
Participation will be another important way to contribute to the Ederbickems project. Just showing up and helping out will be huge! Take what you learn back home and help with the cob revival. We also hope you will pick up some homesteading skills and other ideas that will help you lead a more locally sourced and sustainable life if you so choose. And we hope to learn from you all as well! Participants will also hopefully go home and share info about Ederbickems and even more importantly remain our friends!
Enough rambling for now and stay tuned for the website updates coming around mid May! And if this contribution model works, I will be looking to make it fit for the actual hostel as well!
